Finding the best place for the router to sit in your home can be tricky!
Where it’s positioned can make all the difference in you getting the most out of the WiFi.
Here’s some basic steps to help you out:
Place it in a central location
WiFi signals are emitted in all directions, so the best way to get all of the rooms in your home within range of the signal is to situate the router in the most central location possible.
Less obstructions
Even though WiFi can pass through walls, doing so does weaken the signal so it’s best to avoid them where you can. Materials such as metal, stone, water, and tile can really dilute and block signals.
When positioning the router, consider what will be in between it and the areas with higher activity in your home.
Get your router off the ground!
This simple act can make a big difference!
It helps avoid any furniture that poses an obstacle between the router and your device.
The router should be set on top of a flat surface such as a table or shelf.
Keep other electronics away
TVs, computers and microwaves are examples of common things in your home that can interfere with the WiFi.
Make sure that the router is a reasonable distance away (at least a metre) from such devices.
